Japanese anime? Hot, hot.

In this month, when summer sadly leaves our lives, I’ve decided to keep temperatures high with two Japanese animated works that have been released this summer.

We’re not quite used to consuming this kind of animation. I guess most people have seen or been curious to see some of those japanese “little movie cartoons” known as hentai or pornographic anime. The porn contained in most of these movies is a somewhat bizarre sex, mixed in a number of occasions with fantasy or scenes that, besides showing a full range of sex toys, plays a bit with male chauvinism, violence, etc.. Therefore, and because of my personal opinion, I don’t usually recommend many of the titles of this type of anime. But there are some anime works, like the ones we bring to you now, which don’t contain any of this stuff and just show sex and nothing more. Certainly there are a very few occasions in which we can enjoy erotic or sexual content where only sex between women is exposed.

The format of the two anime stories we are going to talk about is not full-length film or TV series. What we present is called OVA (Original Video Animation), is rather what could be understood as a short. Each containing twenty or thirty minutes of explicit sex or erotic scenes between girls. These two titles are not pioneers on this subject, there is a three-part series called Shoujo Sect, based on a manga that shows only sex between girls, but I will advance no further because this series deserves an article with more details later.

First of all, I must remind you what we already discussed in other issues on MiralES about the general basis for understanding how these stories work:

There are certain points that are repeated in some of the different stories, which are precisely the main features of the genre, such as similar characteristics of characters with similiar attributes, analogous relationships between the characters or similar situations. The bases or characteristics of yuri (love affair stories between women) settled in the 30’s of the last century, with writers like Yoshiya Nobuko, lesbian novelist who transgressed the rigid Japanese society of her time by writing stories of love between women and living openly with her partner. Her work became a source of inspiration for other generations of manga artists, as well as many elements of her novels established trend and were imitated. On the other hand, many of the stories, not just the yuri genre, are set in schools, although the arguments have nothing to do with teenage issues. This is rather an easy resource to locate the characters in any frame of mind, as this time of life relates with freedom and the absence of burdens such as work or family.

Without further ado:

To kiss that flower petal (Sono hanabira ni kuchizuke wo) is the story of Reo and Mai, two high school girls who begin to feel attraction for one another and don’t hesitate to execute any kind of sexual practices when the opportunity arises. This has been one of the most keenly anticipated releases for yuri fans.

The origin of this OVA will surely be quite interesting, since it`s not a very common thing in our country. The story is developed from a visual novel. The visual novel is a game designed for a single player. Usually a main character is placed in a static scenario, this character interacts with the player, who must choose how he wants the story to unfold by answering questions and making decisions on it. Depending on how he plays is how he will or won`t get to see the end of the novel. Many of these games show erotic or pornographic content to compensate the players for their successes or advances, and the main characters are usually women. The scenarios of these games are usually fantastic, medieval type or highschools, enabling to give some atmosphere to the characters with the very famous fairy, cat, warrior or school uniform costumes which are always subject of fetishism. The game began to be commercialized in 2006 and new versions have been continuously edited since then. This OVA was launched on July 30. It`s about twenty minutes of uninterrupted sex between girls, with a romantic view, without eccentricities, only two girls who are getting to know each other, love and sexual desire. Kuttsukiboshi is another release for this August. The first OVA has been launched, which is sure to be followed by another one next summer. This anime is of a more erotic than pornographic touch, and is based on the relationship that begins between two friends, Aya and Ki, during the summer they spend together. The slow development, showing the various meetings of both, comes to an end somewhat unexpectedly.

I must say that the features of the animations aren`t the most spectacularly known or impressive, but the story may deserve something more worthwhile. We`ll have to wait and see. The second video embedded belongs to this anime and you can get to know it better on the link for more information.

Something that catches the attention of western audiences to this type of animation is the appearance and proportions of the characters, located in highschools, something very common in nipponese manga and anime. Make your own opinion.
