Hello. My name is Diego and I’m 11 years old. When I grow up I want to be a journalist and a writer of adventure books. This is the first time I wright in a magazine and I did it because my sister Andrea asked me and I agreed. My sister Andrea is a lesbian. Being a lesbian means that if you’re a girl you like girls, when you’re a guy and you like girls that is called being a heterosexual, but if you’re a guy and you like boys that is being gay. To learn all this names is a pain.
There are people who don’t like lesbians and I don’t understand it. I don’t like chickpeas and I don’t like silent films and my frien Isaac doesn’t like vegetables and never eats salads. And my mom always says there’s no accounting for tastes. But I don’t undestand people who don’t like lesbians because, how can they say that if they haven’t met my sister Andrea and her girlfriend Eli.
My sister Andrea tells me that in some countries they send lesbians to jail or throw them stones and kill them, this are countries of wicked people who don’t like lesbians. When she tells me these things I feel like crying because I can’t even imagine what would’ve happened if we were born in one of this countries and my sister or Eli got killed. I don’t want anyone to do anything to my sister or to any other lesbian people like her, because being a lesbian is a good thing, I like Eli and my sister and her friends who are also lesbians.
My brother Alex has a girlfriend and his girlfriend is not as fun as Eli. Eli plays with me and i let her read the stories I write. My sister Andrea is the best. We match movies our heads off. Andrea and Eli hug and hold hands and they kiss and say romantic things to each other all day like all the lesbians in the world do and I don’t understand that someone might not like that, or that families don’t like lesbians to be among their children or they just don’t speak to them or stop loving them for that.
We love Andrea very much in our family, we would never stop talking to her for being a lesbian and I think that’s pretty stupid. Once we stop talking to a cousin when he said that being like Andrea was disgusting, but we forgave him and we talk again. My mom says that what watters in life is to tell the truth, not to lie to anyone and not to lie to yourself and listen to your heart.
She says that many people build relationships with other people who are not so true or don’t make us so happy or so sad, and that’s why it doesn’t matter who you fall in love with as long as you fall in love with all of your heart and you feel happy. My mom always says nice things because she reads so many books.
The other day, Andrea and my mom fought because Andrea said that she will never go to mass again. My mom likes to go to church and sometimes I go with her and I don’t know what to do because my mom likes to go with me but I don’t feel like going because I know that priests don’t like lesbians and they say they shouldn’t get married. This is what I least understand of all the things in the world because when I took the holy communion the priest repeated that God says we should love him and we must love everyone and be respectful of everyone. So if God says we should love everyone, why do they hate lesbians when lesbians are just good girls who truly fall in love with other girls that are good too?
I told Andrea and Eli that when I grow up I’ll write a book about lesbians so people would know they are good persons and they’d stop killing them and families would love them very much and nobody would throw stones or make them suffer. I’ll write in my book that lesbians are loving, that they always make me laugh and you can trust them with a secret and they like to talk a lot and give a lot of hugs. Andrea and Eli say it’s a very good idea and I know that if people know them they’ll like lesbians a lot and realize they were wrong and would release the ones that are in jail.
